Freedom don’t come easy...

Sat Jul 5, 2008, 7:38 AM
Delegates of the Second Continental Congress in Philadelphia.

The Army of the Potomac and The Army of Northern Virginia on the fields of Pennsylvania.

The Armed Forces of The United States of America in the Global War on Terror.

While we celebrate today in t-shirts and shorts, their attire was and is much different. Short sleeves and swim trunks don’t lend themselves to battling for freedom, whether it be from a monarchy, slavery or an ideology.

Take just a moment today to imagine yourself in the blazing mid-day sun dressed as any of them. Then imagine ratifying a document that meant death by hanging as a traitor to the crown should you loose. Think about standing shoulder to shoulder through a hail of 50 caliber bullets, cannon fire and bayonets. Picture battling a foe that wants to die and drives a car packed with artillery shells straight at your checkpoint. You’ll gain a little more appreciation for what Patriots are made of.

God Bless them and God Bless the U.S.A.!!

I am nobody
Nobody is perfect
Therefore, I must be perfect
Keep kicking the butts of those terrorist ****** and the do-gooder types who keep pandering to 'em too. *RESPECT*
There are times when I think the war is necessary, but every night I pray for peace on earth

I'm sorry to say this kind of frightens me. Is war really needed for freedom? I'm against throwing down a government by pure force, too many innocent citizens get hurt this way. Also, thrusting democracy on a country is a bit radical and extreme. As Plato said, the best political ideology for a country depends on the situation. Like thrusting democracy on Iraq (I'm sorry for bringing this up), you're creating another Dogma that way, albeit a democratic dogma. It's the same with Cuba, they wanted a better living (which frankly they got, just not really THAT better).
The US should pay more attention on what they're doing, military speaking. You're on the edge of a recession yet you spend all the money of the taxes on war? What are you thinking? Trying to help other people when your own country is struggling to keep the economy alive? Also, I think they should listen more to the people in the country. And trying to destroy terrorism by fighting Al Qa'eda (or the extremist Islam for that matter) is a bit unwise, giving people classes in religions helps more than fighting them, also in one of the Soerah's in the Qur'an, it states that one may kill one when they threaten their very existence.
Be proud of your legacy, mate. I love it. :) Being Dutch and all. :P You know, New York (which used to be Nieuw-Amsterdam obv), was founded by the Dutch. :) But I prefer to say:

Long live humanity!
i do not engage in political debate here.
i ask people to recognize other's sacrifices that give them the freedoms they enjoy, and sadly, all too often take for granted.
